Mahle SP1 Range extender battery ebike riding extension
The Mahle SP1 Range extender battery provides 36V/250W of additional power bringing the total capacity to 450W. The Range extender includes a holder that mounts to the water bottle bosses on the frame. It charges the main battery while riding and offers a parallel power supply to the motor when the power draw exceeds 2A. Works with X35 Ebike Systems.

Range extender
This went on a 2019 Orbea Gain. It seems to do the job for which it is designed. There is no way of telling the state of charge of this battery in the Mahle app even though there is supposed to be. The idiot light on the range extender just gives the gross state of charge the same as the internal battery. Maybe Mahle will get their act sorted out for the app. This charges the internal battery and the internal battery drives the motor.
