GT Grade Comp Bike

Many of you reading this will recall the big M.A.M.I.L (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) boom from about a decade ago.  Road riding was at an all-time participation level,  gran fondos were being organized all over, but for GT, we were at a crossroad… We no longer had a pro tour team and our product focus was more and more tied to our roots in the dirt. That’s when Patrick Kaye – better known as ‘PK’ – decided it was GTs time to zig while the industry is zagging.

You may not know this, but prior to leading the charge to manage East Coast Sales for GT, PK was a veteran of the brand’s product development team.  He saw the opportunity to develop a unique new platform, resulting in GT becoming the first brand in the world to commercialize a full carbon, disc brake equipped bike designed specifically for the burgeoning Gravel scene. The revolutionary Grade came loaded with features focused on adventure and comfort over rough surfaces. The flared drop bars and solid glass fibers in the Triple Triangle’s thin seat stays catered to its off-road spirit.  Introduced for the 2015 model year the Grade took home the prize of Innovation of the Year at Eurobike!

Over the next few years, the gravel segment exploded.  PK and our engineers were hard at work to developing the second generation of the Grade platform.  In 2019, we pushed it even further, redesigning the frame with our floating Triple Triangle™ seatstays, and once again, the accolades poured in, being named Gravel Bike of the Year from Bike Radar and Bike Rumor. 

The Grade has developed a cult-like following amongst the core of the gravel crowd, and with other brands focusing on the gravel race scene, we wanted to stay true to the platform’s original ethos with the newest iteration of Grade, which was introduced just a few short months ago.  Generation three of our gravel-pioneering Grade has been redesigned with more capability than ever before. With evolved geometry, increased tire clearance, and 30mm of ‘gravel travel’ thanks to Triple Triangle™, Grade offers more control for riders focused on the fun of expedition, not the stress of competition.
