Description

Charging your ebike battery that is in hibernation or asleep, not taking charge

Bringing your battery out of sleep or hibernation mode

Gentle pre-charge (ONLY if you’re comfortable with electronics)

This is the real “awakening” method for lithium packs:

  • Use a bench power supply or smart charger

  • Set:

    • Voltage: ~40–48 V (below full pack voltage)

    • Current: very low (0.1–0.5 A)

  • Apply briefly to raise pack voltage above BMS threshold  (battery management system).

It may work:

  • A deeply discharged pack may be “invisible” to the charger

  • A small current can bring it back into detectable range

⚠️ This is essentially what people mean by “trickle waking” a lithium pack.

From real-world troubleshooting:

low-current charge can sometimes revive a pack below cutoff (community consensus)

A customer review from the TranzX BL07

Hi

I received the new battery mid last week. It was not charged and I needed to get it charged, so I tried the old original charger for a bit, with no success. I next ordered a new charger. After 10 seconds connected to the new battery and sensing things the new charger took right off charging the new battery. The monitoring lights on both the charger and the battery worked perfectly as they were designed to. It was great to see and after a little over 5 hours the new battery was fully charged ready to go. Next, I installed the new battery in the e-bike. To get the new battery going on the e-bike I had to reset the battery management system for the e-bikes electrical system. This took a few tries but once things connected all was good. I tested the e-bike later Monday, then again on Tuesday and Wednesday. Things are working perfectly so far, and I am happy using the bike again. I hope things continue.

Thanks for the help,

Ed
